Protect your skin with sunscreen lotion alternatives
When I went to the beach last month, I made it my goal to find the perfect spot on the shoreline that would allow me to have a picturesque view of the clear, blue ocean, against the pristine, white sand of Punta Cana. It also was very important for me to have this great view, while being shaded in to avoid getting burned by the sun’s harmful rays. I somehow managed to find the ideal spot, and as dozed off under the gentle swaying palm tree I had rested under.
I awoke, and was surprised to see that I had still tanned, as rays of sunlight snuck their way through the fonds of the palms trees. It was only then that I decided to apply sunscreen, but it was too late to reverse my tan. This summer, anytime you go outside make sure you apply sunscreen 15 minutes ahead of time, even if you plan on staying in the shade. These are a number of great sunblock options available that are more convenient that the traditional sticky lotion. Here are some great options you may want to try:

OHUI Sun Science Powder Sunblock Natural Skin (SPF 50), $49, is a lightweight powder sunblock that comes in a portable cosmetic compact. It’s perfect for on-the-go touch ups, especially since you are supposed to reapply sunblock throughout the day.

California Baby SPF 30+ Sunblock Stick: No Fragrance, $15.00, is a unscented, non-chemical sunblock stick that glides on easily.
Essential Summer Shoes for Every Woman – 2012
Every woman needs to have a go to perennial summer essential shoe collection. This is the time of year when our cute toes get to peek out at the sun after months of being forced into sensible winter boots. In the summer months you get to show off your sexy pedicures without the ubiquitous flip-flop anywhere in sight.
There are five must have types of shows for Summer 2012 –
1- CLASSIC – Light colored ballet flats: for everything from swingy short skirts to skinny leg jeans
2- ELEGANT – Nude colored pumps: can be worn with business suits as well as cocktail dresses
3- TRENDY – Fun colored wedges: shorts, maxi dresses, short dresses…the possibilities are limitless
4- SEXY – Black high heel boots with a spring twist: do I even need to give examples of what you can wear such boots with? Black high heel boots are the epitome of must have shoes.
5- WILD – Bright colored f**k-me stilettos: to be saved for a night out when you want to leave your mark on everyone you meet.
The ballet flat is basic shoe but does not need to be dowdy. This blush-tone style, in a pale pink hue, lends sweetness to any outfit while the metal cap-toe gives you an edge.
Nude colored pumps can be worn either day or night and add a bit of elegance to any type of outfit. Try this one with a comfortable cushioned platform can go directly from the office to a party.
A standout wedge shoe can make any outfit pop. Buckles around the ankles are preferable to sling backs and remember to get a platform wedges for extra height.
Black heeled boots are a staple in any closet, a must have and can dress up any plain skirt or dress. For a black boot with a “spring twist” get a boot with peek toes or a cutout at the foot that is not clunky.
Every woman deserves a hot looking stiletto, in a bright spring color, for those nights when she’d like to let her freak flag fly high. For added attention get an extra sexy pair with low-cut vamp for ample toe cleavage, an architectural heel and a peep toe.

Is Beauty Product Hoarding Genetic?
I think I have a problem. I have tons of beauty products. Tons. I never understood my need to have suitcases filled with products is something that is the result of me simply being female, or if I am a beauty products hoarder in need of an intervention. I think I started collecting makeup when I was about two years old. And, that’s the thing, I don’t wear the makeup, I collect it. When my chubby 2-year old hands wrapped around the smooth surface of a Dr. Pepper flavored lip-balm for the first time, life as I knew it changed forever. Every time I received lip glosses, body glitter, nail polishes, and cheap eye shadows, I would store them in shoe boxes, inside my drawers and under the bed. When no one was looking, I would pull out my secret stash and just gaze at the products, examining the packing; opening and closing tubes; and, envisioning what it would be like to wear the products as a big girl.
Well, I’m a big girl now, and I still do the same thing. But, finally I think have uncovered what may be the reason behind my illness. The other day, I was standing in my mom’s room, and was amazed at the site that was laid out before me on her vanity: tons of unused beauty products. I checked under the bed, and guess what? More unused beauty products. Then, I looked in the corner of her room, in her closet, and in her drawers. And, what did I see? A total accumulation of products that rivals my own. Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that my obsession with beauty products is an infectious disease passed into my bloodstream from my mom. And, just like me, she rarely ever wears makeup. I wonder if she pulls her stash out and night like a 2-year old kid, examining the packing; opening and closing tubes; and, envisioning what it would be like to wear the products.

Do you trust me? Freesias
So far on this site, I covered beauty products inspired by lilacs and dahlias. Today, I bring you: freesias. Before this post, I don’t think I ever knew anything about freesias, strongly scented garden plants native to Africa. Apparently, theses dainty flowers are beloved worldwide, and because of their strong sweet/spicy scent, they are often used in a variety of beauty products, as well as candles and air fresheners. A freesia symbolizes fidelity, innocence and sweetness, and is the ultimate symbolism of eternal love, so step aside roses. It’s traditional to give freesias on the 7th wedding anniversary, the year when I guess, doubts arise, to reinforce faithfulness and trust. When I think of trust, I keep replaying the scenes in Aladdin, when the question “Do you trust me?” repeats so frequently that you just want to run into Aladdin’s scrawny, tan arms and scream “Yes!,” but I digress.
I’m not sure if a flower will ever get me to trust someone, but maybe the symbolism will inspire me to trust myself more often. Try wearing freesia scented products when you are in doubt or nervous, so you can begin to trust yourself. Because after all, if you don’t trust yourself who will?

- Bath & Body Works® Signature Collection CLASSICS Shower Gel, $9.50
- Oscar Sheer Freesia by Oscar De La Renta, $38.89

- Paddywax Freesia Large Tin Candle, $12.00

Kardashian Intimates
Looking back through the many blog posts I’ve written about fashion, I realized I never featured lingerie. So for the first time ever, here it is: a post about lingerie. But today I’m not just featuring any kind of lingerie; I’m featuring intimates from Kardashian Kollection that I had a chance to sneak a peek at, when I attended the Sears Fall 2012 Preview a couple of weeks ago. The undergarments in the collection feature sexy lace, uplifting bras for a busier look, and of course, leopard print designs. Silky slips, corsets, garter panties, and mesh tights are included in the long list of intimates that the sisters fashionably put together.

Clarisonic Mia2 Review

My Clarisonic
I have a confession to make. Ever since I saw the Clarisonic on QVC for the first time, I became borderline obsessed with wanting the product. I would literally rush home from work on the nights I knew the product would be shown, and sit in awe as models demonstrated how the rotating brush thoroughly cleanses, revealing smooth, healthy looking skin. I suffer from dry skin patches and extremely large pores, so as far as I was concerned, this tool was a necessity for my skincare regimen. I’ve been hesitant about purchasing the product for the last two years, because of the $200+ price tag. But, recently, I decided that if I’m willing pay well over $100 at the spa, I might as well invest in a product that will allow me to bring the spa home. So, when Sephora sent out a 15% off coupon via e-mail, I decided to purchase the Mia2™ Sonic Skin Cleansing with Sephora Collection Instant Moisturizer. I already use the Sephora moisturizer (which, by the way, is amazing!), so that’s why I selected this particular set, but there are others you can choose from. I’ve been using my Clarisonic for about two weeks now and here are my thoughts so far:
PROS
- My skin has never felt so soft. I noticed this after the first time I used it. The dry patches I mentioned above were gone after the first use.
- My makeup goes on smoother. Before, when I would apply foundation, sometimes the color would get stuck on flakes of dry skin, making the foundation visible.
- My skin is clearer. I think this is because the brush cleans deep down into pores, allowing the products you use to sink into your skin and work more efficiently.
- It beeps to signal when you should move onto another part of your face. If it wasn’t for this, I would spend at least a minute just on my nose, trying to get rid of the huge pores that reside there. Over-exfoliating is not good for your skin, so move on when the brush tells you to.
- It’s very lightweight and portable – I was able to take it with me to my overseas vacation, and it comes with a cute little travel case.
CONS
- When you first get the Clarisonic, you must charge it for a full 24 hours. And, it really does take 24 hours to charge. The anticipation of wanting to use my new tool was intensified by this process, but I’m glad I waited it out.
- My Clarisonic came pre-timed to shut off in one minute. I suppose one minute is all you need when washing your face with a brush that rotates 300 times per second, but I would like it to figure out how to remove the pre-timed setting so I can have enough time to get down to my neck.
Have any of you tried the Clarisonic?

Sears Fall 2012 Preview
Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and with the holiday fast approaching I was thrilled to attend Sears’ Fall 2012 preview, and check out the some of the hot new items that are being offered this season. I never really thought of Sears as a go-to place for beauty products, but I quickly learned that they offer many different cosmetics and fragrances at low prices that make perfect gifts.
I was very surprised at how much I loved the scent of Justin Bieber Someday EDP1.7 OZ/50ML, $45.00 at sears.com. It has a light, sugary-sweet fruit scent that is addicting to women of all ages. I had previously stayed away from the fragrance when it first came out, because any product Bieber comes out with inevitably ends up in the hands of girls who use body glitter, have their hair in pigtails, and use crayons to imitate putting on lipstick. But, this scent’s energetic sweetness of juicy mandarin, pear, and wild berries; combined with flowers, vanilla and soft musk is worth a try. Also, check out the cute floral cap and super cute chain that comes with the bottle.
I love doing my nails at home. I only splurge on salon visits when I’m going somewhere really special, and don’t have the time to dedicate to painting my nails myself. Sears carries a brand called Academy of Colour, which has a line of do-it-yourself nail kits for just $8.00, that include everything you need to create a French manicure or elaborate designs.

Academy of Colour also has a line of eye collections ($8.00 at Sears), that includes an application guide so you can get a gorgeous eye makeup look.
Another perfect gift is Jasmine La Belle Gold 23pc Cosmetic Beauty Journal. This makeup collection comes with 18 shades of eyeshadow, 2 blushes, 2 foundation colors, 1 applicator, and a mirror, all for just $4.98 at Sears! The cosmetic Beauty Journal looks like a cute little clutch, and is perfect for traveling , or for on-the-go beauty.
After you buy all your makeup, why not put them in chic makeup pouches? These pouches sold at Sears for $20, are available in a set of three sizes, and already come tied with a bow. Now that’s a great gift!
