Product Review: Beyoncé Pulse Fragrance

beyonce_pulseThis past winter I received Beyoncé’s Pule, the third perfume to emerge from the superstar’s line of women’s fragrances. I recently started spritzing the blue perfume every morning for during the last few weeks, and surprisingly, I really like it.

The scent: It has a delicate fresh scent that makes you smell like you just stepped out of the shower and reminds me of Spring. It’s powdery, sweet, spicy and floral all at the same time. Beyoncé’s favorite flower, the orchid, is the base of the fragrance which includes notes of pear blossom, jasmine, precious woods and Madascar Vanilla among its other ingredients. It also last for the entire work day. I unusually apply it around 7am, and by 6pm I can still sense the aroma of the sweet perfume.

The packaging: The bottle is intentionally designed to look like it’s upside down. A chrome cap tops off the bottle, which is said to have been inspired by Beyoncé’s stage costumes.

Cost: Varies, depending on where you but it. A 1.7 oz bottle retails for about $34 at Target.

Thinking About Going Platimum Like Adam Levine?

untitledWhen the summertime comes around, many people tend to lighten their locks, but it came as a shock when Adam Levine debuted his new blonde look last week. Whether or not your love it or hate it, the “Sunday Morning” crooner looks to be having fun while learning if blondes really do have more fun.

“Every cool dude does it at least once: either a buzz or goes blonde,” says Redken Hair Color Consultant David Stanko. “I would use Redken Flash Lift Maximum Power Lightening Powder and a 30 volume developer to lift Adam’s medium-brown hair to pale yellow. Then, I would use Shades EQ to tone and keep it cool for a cool guy like Adam. Of course, guy or gal, Redken’s Blonde Idol is a must to maintain.”

If you’re thinking about going platinum blonde, or if you already are, it’s important to manintain you’re hair’s color vibrancy by using the right products such as Redken’s NEW Blonde Idol haircare range, which delivers a specialized haircare treatment that is meant to protect plantim locks from the sun’s rays and helps to maintain the hair’s color. The system includes the following:

1. Sulfate-Free Shampoo: This pH balancing, extra-gentle shampoo gently cleanses and strengthens to maintain the hair’s integrity.
2. Custom-Tone Violet Conditioner: Light enough for even the finest blonde hair, this custom-tone conditioner releases a custom calibrated blend of color-depositing and conditioning dual-chamber formulas to help maintain tonality. The violet contains kerabond, violet leaf extract and lactic acid to strengthen and neutralize brassiness for cool blondes.
3. BBB Blonde Multi-Benefit conditioning spray: To balance, beautify and brighten your blonde, spritz in this lightweight leave-in or rinse-out multi-benefit conditioner.
4. Mask nourishing rinse-out treatment: This lightweight, nourishing formula targets porous, damaged areas with intense hydration and smoothness to renew softness and amplify shine.

Get Gorgeous Skin this Summer with Skin Authority

skin authorityNow that summer is approaching, it’s critical to adjust your skin care routine. Warmer and longer days mean it’s time to add products that are oil-free, nourishing and most importantly, offer protection against the sun’s harmful rays. Prestige skin care line Skin Authority has two great products that aim to reverse the damage done by the harsh winter weather, and keep your skin glowing throughout the summer months.

VitaD Fortified Topical Elixir

This topical elixir is formulated with vitamins D2, D3, A, E, and K, as well as a powerful oligopeptide, which work together to nourish, firm and brighten the skin’s appearance. The oil-free elixir also feature’s Skin Authority’s Dry Finish Technology™.

The consistency of the formula is very lightweight. It was very easy to incorporate the elixir into my morning routine since it dries very quickly, allowing me to move on to the next step of my skin care regimen, without the usual fanning of my face or waiting for it to air-dry, which I usually experience with other morning serums. It also gives my skin a very nice glow.

Age Defying Moisturizer SPF18

Following the elixir, I’ve been using Skin Authority’s Age Defying Moisturizer SPF18, which I absolutely adore. This is a multi-benefit product as it moisturizes, contains SPF, stimulates collagen production and calms skin irritation. It’s also packed with a cocktail of antioxidants, vitamins, and fatty acids which aim to slow down the signs of aging. It’s been very hard for me to find a moisturizer that contains a decent amount of spf, and doesn’t go on chalky and leave me with a ghost face. This moisturizer melts seamlessly into the skin without leaving behind any white residue.

The VitaD Fortified Topical Elixir retails for $59.00 and the Age Defying Moisturizer SPF18 is $60. Visit Skin Authority’s website to learn more about the products and check back tomorrow to learn how you can win both products right here on the blog.

Finding the perfect Hat for the Kentucky Derby

(May 2, 2009 – Source: Jeff Gentner/Getty Images North America)

This week I will be attending a Kentucky Derby themed party, so naturally, I had to begin looking for the fashion accessory that’s most associated with the women who attend the event – the big, fancy, hat. The extravagant hat tradition dates back to 1711 when Queen Anne enforced a strict dress code which mandated the public wear hats in her presence. Years later, headwear still remains a staple at the event, and steals more attention than the races. Below are some of the hats I think would be perfect for the special occasion.

Product Review: Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Curl Condition Hair Pudding

cocnut_oil_palmers If you follow me on Instagram you’ve already seen me rave about Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Curl Condition Hair Pudding. Considering the price of this hair wonder – a 14 0z jar retails for around $6 – it really is a great deal for an amazing product that produces results comparable to other high end brands.

After washing my hair, I apply it to my curls while they are still damp and let them air dry. Once my hair dries, the result is a perfect head of spirals. My hair is soft to the touch, not crunchy or hard, and it bounces as I walk. The best part for me is that my curls stay elongated, long after it dries and the definition stays all day. palmers coconut oil The white curly pudding has a creamy consistency and features pure coconut oil, vitamin E, and keratin. It also has a light scent, which fades throughout the day, which is great since I don’t like my hair to smell stronger than my perfume. palmers coconut oil product

The one thing about this product that I will note, is that you need to wet your hair in order to style it again the following day after using the pudding. It does build up, so you need to rinse it out of your hair daily. Other than that, it’s great.

Mineral Fusion Beauty Balm Review

bbcream_mineral

So, you know that Whole Foods is packed with yummy, good-for-you food, but did you know that you can get some amazing beauty products there? Case and point: Illuminating Beauty Balm SPF 9.

I’ve tended to stay away for BB creams, because no matter how many of them I’ve tried nothing really seem to match my skin perfectly. I also don’t feel like most BB creams live up to the hype – I am able to get a flawless look from the same tinted moisturizer I’ve been using since the 10th grade. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon Mineral Fusion’s Illuminating Beauty Balm, a hypo-allergenic, fragrance free all-in-one BB cream.

The product comes in one universal shade that matches all skin tones. At first, I didn’t believe this product stood a chance in matching my olive complexion when I saw the light beige color emerge from the tube, but when I put it on, it blended in seamlessly and felt weightless. My large pores were masked, my skin tone was even, and I was glowing. Although it is a BB cream, the coverage seems more like a light foundation, as it literally provided me with a flawless complexion.

BB Cream

One color matches all skin tones

The BB cream is formulated with skin-soothing aloe and nourishing botanicals to provide long-lasting hydration, and also includes a unique mineral-peptide blend and natural anti-oxidants to promote younger looking skin. It also contains SPF to protect against the sun’s harmful rays.

What is it: All-in-one: Makeup + moisturizer + age-defying treatment + sun protection.

Cost: $24.99 at mineralfusion.com or Whole Foods.
