At some point in time, even though I am surrounded with tons of free beauty loot, I became a beauty box junkie. From subscription boxes that host all-natural, organic products to boxes filled with “indies” aka the next big thing in beauty, I need them all. The box I am most excited about this month is Essence’s Beauty Box, which is loaded with everything you need to get holiday ready with a gorgeous red lipstick and gold sparking eyeshadow. It also includes a bodywash, all-purpose moisturizer and luxurious hair products. Watch the video below to see the magazine’s beauty editors Deena Campbell and Nykia Spradley ‘unbox’ the December BeautyBox.

Steal Whitney Port’s Wedding Day Skin Secret

Whitney Port married Tim Rosenman over the weekend, and to prep for the big day she got her skin camera-ready with HydraFacial MD, a treatment that rejuvenates the skin in just 30 minutes. Forget harsh chemical peels, the secret of this facial is its vortex fusion technology, which acts as both a physical & chemical peel extracting imbedded oil and debris. The result is nourished and hydrated skin, giving that appearance of a flawless complexion.

Also unique about the treatment is it doesn’t cause irritation, so no downtime is needed.

Whitney has been raving about the treatment saying, “The HydraFacial MD has moisturized my skin in a way nothing else has, it really evened out my skin tone, particularly on my cheeks,” and that “it gives my skin an immediate glow that lasts for days!”

Product Review: ViaBuff Custom Exfoliators

Studies have shown that taking a shower can ease stress, calming your body and your mind. While you’re in there getting great emotional benefits, make sure your skin gets the optimal value of your time in the water by cleansing with the right sponge. ViaBuff may just be your answer. The new bath sponge line features four levels of exfoliating sponges so you can customize the perfect one for your body and face. For example, purple and blue are gentle and work well on people with skin conditions such as acne and psoriasis; green is mild for eczema suffers; pink is moderate for keratosis pilaris, waxing and ingrown hairs; and white is clinical for very rough, dry skin.

Designed as a soft foam ball, the sponge aims to remove dead skin cells, promote clarity, even out skin tone and boosts the skin’s natural renewal cycle.

body

I received the product for review a couple of weeks ago, and I have been using the blue ViaBuff Facial Mini Buff as well as the pink and white ViaBuff Body Duo Exfoliator (Level 3& 4: moderate and clinical). I liked that having two sides allowed me to adjust the sponge for my skin’s needs. For example I used the pink side of the sponge all over before shaving, and the white side to gently buff away the rough skin on my knees and elbows.

faceUnlike a lot of other bath products I have tried, it doesn’t absorb all of your soap, so you as can use less and save more of your cleanser! It is also eco-friendly and cost-effective, as the sponges are machine washable and durable. As an added bonus, you can purchase a 19-inch ViaBuff Handle to hook the sponges onto, so that you can make sure your body gets the benefits of the product in hard to reach places from head to toe.

My recommendation when using both the face and bath sponge would be to move it in circular motions – you’ll get a nice little massage and I also just think you get better benefits of the exfoliator that rubbing back and forth won’t give you.

ViaBuff prices range from $4 to $25 and can be purchased here.

4 Things to Consider for Your Skin’s Summer to Fall Transition

When the weather starts getting cooler in the winter, the first things that enter our head is our new wardrobe. We think of replacing our shorts and camis with long sleeved tops and sweaters and instead of sandals we take out our boots. The most important thing that we need to worry about however is the largest organ in our body… the skin. Skin gets affected by the change in temperature and the change in the level of humidity. Fall brings about chillier and drier air. We also need to consider repairing all the damage that we have caused our skin during warmer months. The beach parties and sun exposure causes terrible harm to our skin. Let’s see what changes we should bring about in order to preserve our skin.

1. Body

After exposure to the sun your body is likely to suffer from sunburn. No matter how good your sunblock may be, it cannot block the effect skinof the sun completely. Some people’s skin also gets so dry that it flakes off. This is the time your body requires in order to heal.

Before going to bed make sure you rub lotion all over your body. Include it as a part of your sleeping ritual. Massaging lotion in your body actually helps relax you. It also helps the circulation of blood throughout your body. This generally reduces your fatigue.

After you come out of the shower you should also apply a small quantity over your wet skin. This is the perfect timing to do so as your pores are usually open after taking a long shower with warm water. This helps lock moisture in your skin.

2. Face

faceYour face is the mirror to your soul! Gotta keep it looking fresh ladies!

Your face needs moisture. Don’t use cleansers that have alcohol or any other drying agent. Instead of gel based face washes go for a creamy one. It will help lock moisture in your skin.

Use a night cream when you go to bed. Always wash your face before putting on a cream before bedtime. Get a serum if you have dark circles under eyes as well.

Exfoliate! Summer leaves your pores all clogged up with dirt as you go to sandy beaches. Try to exfoliate at least twice a week. As fall is drier dead skin cells also tend to accumulate on the skin so try and scrub it off frequently. Never scrub too hard as it can damage your skin instead of reviving it.

You also need to stop using your toner as your skin does not require you to dry it up more. However a primer is a must then as you do not want to end up with a shiny nose and forehead at the end of the day.

Now fall demands a softer look so get rid of your bronzers and apply lighter foundations. Also make sure that you use a liquid foundation. Maybeline dream liquid mousse works best for me during winters.

3. Lips

lips

Don’t forget your lips. They get chapped in winters and lipstick never looks good on chapped lips. Don’t forget to wear a chap stick during the day. Whenever you exfoliate your face also exfoliate your lips. No his does not mean you should put scrub on your lips. However there are amazing DIY lip scrubs. Simply put Vaseline on a toothbrush and lightly brush your lips with it. You should always use Vaseline before going to bed.

4. Hair

hairWhile worrying about your skin, don’t forget your hair. Fall can bring about dandruff. Dandruff not only leads to an itchy scalp and hair fall but some extreme cases of dandruff also starts coming on your forehead and makes your skin look bad. The simple solution to this is oiling. Oil your hair at least two times a week, if possible. Olive oil is best for a scalp massage. You can just put hair oil 15 minutes before you shower and then wash it off with shampoo. You can also leave the hair overnight if it does not bother you. Do not shampoo your hair twice or thrice to get the oil out otherwise the whole purpose of applying it will be countered.

You need to understand that different skins require different level of care. Although oily skin maybe a handful in the summers, drier skins cannot bear the effect of a dry winter. If your skin is too dry you should refer to a dermatologist for special creams for winter months.

Your skin is the first thing that can give away your age. It is very important to take good care of your skin even in younger years so that it does not start deteriorating as you get older.
